Mrs. Koch and Mrs. Lincoln joined students today to weed and plant flowers and vegetables in the GaTE garden.  They already have a good stand of beans, okra, pumpkins, tomatoes, cucumbers and other vegetables and herbs.

Registration Information for 13-14

Registration packets for the 2013-2014 school year were sent home last week.  Please complete the online registration and return the necessary documents to school before Friday.  We will immediately begin preparing class rolls for next year.  We need your child's registration information in order to place them on a roll.  Registering is easy and quick.  Thank you in advance for completing registration before the end of school.

Oklahoma Tornado

I have had requests from many here in Trussville who want to know how to help the people in Oklahoma. Their needs are overwhelming and the word is they need financial donations through the Red Cross so they can purchase items for immediate needs rather than collecting goods and having them shipped.

One way to help if you so choose is to donate online or by phone.

The contact information is:

Or you may call 1-800-redcross.

It is my understanding from the news last night that the tornado grew from an F-1 to an F-4 in twenty minutes at school dismissal time. There was not enough warning to send the children home early, so they sheltered in place. I believe they did the best they could under unpredictable circumstances.  My heart goes out to the administration, faculty, parents, children and the community for having to endure such a catastrophic event.

Please feel free to forward or share this information with anyone who asks.

Library Books Due Now

All library books were due back to the school library last Friday.  Please ask your child if he/she still has school library books.  Have your child return all books on Monday.  The process of inventorying all of our books is very time consuming, and we must account for all books.   Thank you for your help.

Playground Update

We are just three months away from having a new playground.  We will continue to raise funds to complete our playground.  This week our Girls on the Run held a bake sale as a service project.  They made $55.25 which they chose to give to our playground fund.  We are proud of these girls and appreciate their generosity.  Stephanie Broughton is the coach for Girls on the Run.

Thank you to all who have returned their Boosterthon pledges.  Our school has made approximately $30,000 through our Boosterthon Fun Run.  Ten percent of this goes back to the classroom teachers.  The remainder will be used to help build the new playground.

Medications at School

If students have medications in the school clinic, parents will need to pick it up by the last day of school.  Students are not allowed to transport medication to and from school.  We are required to dispose of any medications left at school.

Please send lunch money if your child owes money to the lunchroom.  You may contact Assistant Manager Debbie Skinner at 228-3226 if you have questions.

Boosterthon Update

To date we have collected pledges that equate to $28,587 for Paine Intermediate. Thank you so much for sending in your pledges. If you have not been able to return yours yet, we will continue to collect this upcoming week. We will announce the winners of the classroom prizes this week. Again, thank you for your support.

AR Update

We made it! We set a goal of 40,000 Accelerated Reader points for the third trimester, and we met that goal today - two weeks early! I wonder how many points we will achieve by May 17! I am so proud of our students for their reading and of our teachers for the encouragement they have given students.

As of today:
Average Book Levels
Gr 3 4.1
Gr 4 4.7
Gr 5 5.1
Average AR Test Scores
Gr 3 87
Gr 4 87
Gr 5 88
Total AR Points for the year so far - 107,000

Many thanks to Donna Griffith for making "40,000" buttons to help us celebrate reaching our goal of 40,000 AR points!

Working in the Garden

GaTE students are creating stepping stones for the garden.

Boosterthon Update

Parents, Thank you for your support of this year’s Boosterthon Fun Run! The program was a huge success, but we still need your help. Right now we have made a profit of $13,950 that will be used to help build our new playground.  We hope to get all pledges returned by tomorrow (Friday, May 3).  You can log on to www.funrun.com for all the information you may need. Thanks again for your help and support! Let’s work together to finish strong and reach our goal!

Field Trip Parking Information

If you are going on a field trip with your child's class, please park across the street at Amerex or at Faith Community Fellowship.  It is a four minute walk through the pine trees from Faith to Paine Intermediate.  We have very limited parking at our school.  If parents park on our campus, teachers have nowhere to park their cars.  Thank you for your help.

Yearbooks!

Paine yearbooks were given out yesterday.  If you have questions about yearbooks, please email the PTO.    president@painepto.org

A small number of yearbooks will be available for purchase starting Monday, May 8th.  A PTO representative will be in the lobby of both Paine schools from 7:30 - 8:00 only.  These books will be sold on a first come basis.  The cost is $60.  Only cash will be accepted.  We strongly encourage that a parent or adult come to the school to ensure the yearbook is purchased and money isn’t forgotten in backpacks.

Thank you,
The Paine PTO
