Schools Closed February 11

Trussville City Schools will be closed Tuesday, February 11, 2014 due to winter weather.
Because the governor has declared a state of emergency, eLearning is not required.  However, I encourage parents to expect their children to read and work on Dreambox and any other projects while we are out of school.  If your child is not fluent with his multiplication facts, this would be a great time to work on those. Students who do not know their multiplication facts are at a huge disadvantage when it comes to learning other mathematics.  Flash cards, practice tests, and repeated writing of the facts will help your child learn them.

Opportunity to Help Build Trussville Schools

Dear Parents,

On February 25, we have the opportunity to support the community of Trussville and Trussville City Schools by choosing to increase our property taxes by a nominal amount.  These seven additional mills will increase taxes on a $100,000 home by only $5.88 per month.  Yet this increase will allow us to build two new schools for our elementary students, decreasing the number of students on each campus and the number of students in each classroom.

By working together, we can improve the quality of schools for our children.  We CAN do so much better.  I am going to vote "YES" on February 25 in support of the tax referendum.  I sincerely hope that Trussville residents will carefully consider the future of our schools and will join me in voting to improve our schools.

For more information, please click here:  https://www.trussvillecityschools.com/Documents/Tax%20Pamphlet%20Feb.%202014.pdf

Most sincerely,
Beth Bruno, Principal

Important Book Fair Information

Dear Parents and Families:

Reading is the most important skill you can teach a child. Of all the skills children learn, it is the one you can influence the most.  We invite you to visit our Scholastic Book Fair and experience a celebration of reading that provides families the opportunity to get involved in a universal mission: encouraging kids to read every day so they can lead better lives.

Our Scholastic Book Fair theme - Book Fair Fiesta: ¡Yo Quiero Libros! ¡Vamos a Leer! (I Want Books! Let's Go Read!), surrounds students with hundreds of fun and engaging books. The Book Fair gives kids access to good books and the opportunity to choose their own books. Like most acquired skills, the more kids practice reading, the more skilled reader they’ll be.

Please take a look at the flyer with your child and make selections that are “just right” for them.  It is always helpful when students arrive at the Book Fair with book selections already in mind.  However, there will be many other book choices that are not included on the flyer.  Additionally, if you do not want your child to purchase novelty items (pencils, pens, pencil sharpeners, etc.) please send a note so we can follow your instructions.  Please note that the Minecraft Essential Handbook is on backorder.  Students are still welcome to purchase the book. Ask your child’s teacher for an order form.  Students that order the book during the fair will receive a free Minecraft Poster.

Students will attend the Book Fair during their “Specials” time.  PE students come at the beginning of their “Specials” time and all the other “Specials” classes come during the last 20 minutes of class.   Parents are welcome to attend the Book Fair with their child!

Book Fair Dates:             2/3-2/7
Shopping Hours:            8:45am-3:00pm
Special Events:               Family Nights-2/4 and 2/6 from 4pm-7pmDonuts for Dads- 2/5 and 2/7 from 8:15am-11:00am.  A special invitation for dads and granddads to come and shop with their student during these times!  Donuts and coffee will be served. Please park in the back along the carline ring road.

Before you visit the Book Fair, be sure to download the FREE Book Fairs App to help you find the right fit books for your child. For more information, visit: scholastic.com/apps/bookfairs.  If you’re all booked up during Book Fair week be sure to visit the Book Fair online http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/paineintermediateschool2 . Our Online Fair is available for an extended time from 1/26 to 2/15.

We look forward to having you participate in our Fair, and remember, all purchases benefit our school.
Sincerely,

Christi Williamson
Library Media Specialist

*Sales ending in 99 cents will be rounded up to the nearest dollar.  We can accept cash, checks, debit cards, and credit cards. We cannot give change from a check—this is a state mandated policy. There is no tax added to any of our sales.  We are not allowed to make exchanges.
