Safety
We have had two incidences within the last week when safety patrollers on the car line came close to being injured. Parents, please give the car line, the safety patrollers, your children, and the supervising adults your full attention. It is a common occurrence for parents to be engaged in a phone conversation when they pull into the car line. Often times, after their children get into their vehicles, the drivers do not look back to see if the safety patroller has stepped away from the car. This is an unsafe practice. These are 10 and 11 year old children. We have asked repeatedly for parents to discontinue cell phone use when they enter the car line. For the safety of our students, please comply with this request.

Our reading cows are moving to new classes. Congratulations to these classes that have the highest percentage of students reading and passing Accelerated Reader tests.

Food Drive Update
Wow! We have collected 1,913 items for the Thanksgiving food drive. That’s amazing! We still need around 1,000 items to meet our school goal of 3,000 items. If everybody brings in 1 or 2 items tomorrow, we will reach our goal! We are helping those in need and we can earn a hat day for next Tuesday. Come on Paine Intermediate…the food drive ends Friday . Let’s work together and help those in need and meet our goal of 3,000 items!
First Trimester "Millionaires"
Nine students achieved "Millionaire" status for the first trimester. These students read at least one million words from August until the first of November as determined by Accelerated Reader. These voracious readers were honored with a pancake breakfast Wednesday morning in the Paine Intermediate media center. Librarian Christi Williamson and reading coach Kelly McGough awarded the students certificates, special bracelets, and new books.

Seasonal Information
Monday, December 9 Systemwide Choral Program @ HTHS @ 7:00
Tuesday, December 10 HTHS and HTMS Holiday Band Concerts (gym)
Tuesday, December 17 Third Grade Parties
Wednesday, December 18 Fourth and Fifth Grade Parties
Thursday, December 19 Holiday Sing-a-longs (gym)
Parties - Only the room mother should attend the party. We do not have sufficient parking for unlimited parents. Room mothers have been asked to collect no more than $5 from each student for the party and any gifts. Parents are NOT to be contacted to send in additional food items. The $5 should cover the cost of the party food and favors. We are discouraging expensive food items like pizza. We should not be providing an additional meal; it is a party.

Important Information for Car Riders
Parents of Car Riders,
For the safety of Paine Primary and Paine Intermediate students, the ring road will be barricaded from 8:05 in the morning until approximately 2:20 in the
afternoon, with the exception of Mondays (1:20 pm) and during Paine Intermediate assemblies.
We do not wish to inconvenience parents here to pick
up their children, but we are responding to the SAFETY issue of securing our
campus and stopping unnecessary traffic entering the campus during school hours. There are three barricades along the location that is blocked,
with a small gap area for Emergency Vehicles and Deliveries Only.
Thank you in advance for your support as we strive to make
improvements each and every day to make our campus the safest possible.

Veterans Day Celebration at PI
Students of Mrs. Long, Mrs. Peters, and Mrs. Ekonen were privileged to hear Mrs. Long's dad, Ret. General Robert Hamrick, explain the significance of Veterans Day and his experiences over his 40 year career in the Air Force and Alabama Air National Guard. General Hamrick patiently answered many and varied questions of the students.
Students have worked to decorate the building in honor of Veterans Day.
Drawstring Backpacks
Paine Intermediate School is selling drawstring backpacks
to help pay for copier expenses, copy paper and other various school
expenses. Students use approximately 30
cases of copy paper every 3-4 weeks, and this is a huge monthly school expenditure. The drawstring backpacks made of polycanvas/polyester
are gray with a red center panel and mesh front pockets and are $10 each.

November 8, Veterans Day Celebration
On Friday, November 8, we will celebrate Veterans Day and honor veterans. Students have been notified that they may invite a veteran to have lunch with them during their regular lunch time. We will have additional tables for dining set up in the gym for our visitors and their students.
- Students are asked to wear red, white, and blue on Friday..
- Veterans should sign in at the office and meet the class near the lunchroom.
Additionally, students have been asked to bring copies of pictures of family members who are soldiers. These will be posted on our hall display.
Box Tops Update
It is my
pleasure to announce that our Fall 2013 Box Tops count is final!
I am so proud
of our students, parents and faculty for their support of this fundraising
campaign. Together, our two schools turned in 60,346
box tops this Fall. That’s $6,034.60 in “free money” for our schools!
WE ARE
HALFWAY TO OUR GOAL of $12,000 for our schools! Remember to ask your extended family,
neighbors, etc to save them for us so we can make our goal by having another
BIG collection in February.
The winners
of the pizza parties at Paine Intermediate are:
3rd
– Camara with 1,873
4th
– Hendrick with 1,570
5th
– Ekonen with 1,828
Again, thank
you so much for all of your help to make this campaign successful. Keep
clipping and saving as we will have another collection date in February 2014.
Again,
congratulations to everyone and Go Huskies!
