Starting tomorrow, we will pilot a new bell system. The first bell will ring each morning at 7:45. This is our signal that students are being dismissed to class. The second bell will ring at 7:55 to alert students and staff that it is nearing 8:00. The bell that rings at 8:00 is the official tardy bell. Classes begin promptly at 8:00, so please make sure your student arrives on campus in time to get to class by 8:00. Students may be dropped off in the car line as early as 7:20 A.M.
How can this system be logical when most of the 2000 students and parents already fight a daily cluster of car line chaos? The school needs to encourage more of these 'stay-at-home' moms to allow/trust the bus system.
ReplyDeleteIt is understandable that the parents of younger primary children would rather drop off their little ones. And the volunteers/teachers who dedicate themselves regardless of cold or rain do their best given the worst of poor planning of entry/exit lanes, but this new bell requirement is illogical and unfair.
I live 6 minutes from the school, but it took me 45 min in the mornings and 1.5 hrs in the afternoon to retieve my child, hence our new use of the bus system, which is a Godsend, I tell you, a blessing!
The system should consider using the summer to campaign for the City Counsel to widen both Hwy 11 and adding additional lanes to the rear of the school. The "rock mountain" is not an obstacle, it can be blasted and walled to allow for more lanes.
Forethought is a must have. Think people.
With over 2000 children on campus and so many moms insisting on going through carline I am convinced that this new bell system is not only illogical, but also unfair.
ReplyDeleteAlthough the volunteers and teachers who stand in rain and cold do their best during carline, the lack of sufficient lanes on both Hwy 11 and on campus shows how out of touch the administration is with the reality of the problems parents face daily.
It is understandable that primary parents prefer to drop off smaller children, but. I live six minutes from the school and before utilizing the bus system, it took 45 minutes in the morning and and hour and twenty in the afternoon to retieve my child.
We need to encourage more parents to trust and utilize the bus system in place. When I sit in carline 30 minutes only to have to drive around for check in, it creates more work for everyone, and then the child gets punished as "tardy" when it is out of their control.
A campaign by the schoolboard to City Counsel is in order to increase the lanes on Hwy 11 and behind the school. Blasting the hill behind the school to make way for more lanes can and should be addresses.
