The math classroom today looks
different from what many of us remember. One of the most important goals
is that students learn how to think critically about mathematical
concepts. Research reveals that in addition to math content, critical
thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity are skills we should
develop in our students. This translates to the math classroom through
real-world problems, exchange of ideas, numerical flexibility, development of
conceptual knowledge and procedural fluency. This can be confusing for
those of us that were not taught math in this manner. This parent
math blog will provide parents with important information regarding our math
curriculum, and hopefully answer some questions and lessen any confusion.
We are asking all parents to sign up to receive periodic updates as we post to our math blog. On the top left, use your email address to sign up for the blog.
This is one of many steps we are taking to keep our parents involved and informed on curriculum and instruction at Paine Intermediate School.
