Ways to Stay Informed
Parents
As a way to stay informed with various aspects of the school, many of our teachers and the administration have created "blogs" as another way to communicate with our parents! Below you will find a listing of the published blogs that are maintained and updated frequently throughout the school year. Take a moment to sign-up to receive updates as they are posted on each blog.
If you ever have any questions, feel free to contact the school!

Red Ribbon Week Revised Schedule (Reminder)
Red Ribbon Week
Oct. 27th - 31st, 2014
Paine Intermediate
We are joining thousands of other schools across the USA in an effort to raise awareness about the dangers of using tobacco products, other drugs, and alcohol. Throughout the month, counselors will conduct drug awareness lessons for all classes according to the state counseling standards, and then dress up days during this week will help emphasize awareness too.. Daily themes for the week revolve around PI’s focus on student leadership; “The Leader in Me is Drug Free!”
*Please note: Since the Hewitt vs. Clay game was moved to Thursday, Oct. 30th, we are switching the last 2 dress up days.. In support of our HT Huskies, we will now wear our Husky Spirit clothing on Thursday, and then the bright, neon colored clothing on Friday. Thanks for your understanding!
Monday- Hats Off to Being Drug Free!
Students are encouraged to wear hats/caps to kick off the week and to help show their commitment to being a drug free leader.
Tuesday- Don’t Let Drugs Erase Your Dreams!
Students are encouraged to wear appropriate pajamas to school to remind them that drugs can erase their future hopes and dreams. Students must wear or bring tennis shoes for PE!
Wednesday- Leaders are “Red-y” to Say No to Drugs!
Students are encouraged to wear red colored clothing to show their support for Red Ribbon Week as it is “National Wear Red Day.” Remember, leaders stay drug free!
Thursday- These Paws Won’t Touch Drugs!
Students are encouraged to support our school team and wear their favorite Husky school spirit clothing to show that Paine Intermediate Husky Leaders will make smart choices and stay drug free. Go Huskies!
Friday- My Future is Bright so I’m Staying Drug Free!
All students are encouraged to wear bright, neon colored clothing as they commit to make good choices and be drug free for their future.

"Silver" for Stars and Stripes
“Silver” for Stars and Stripes!
Show your Husky pride and help purchase an
American flag to fly at the new Hewitt Field!
To help show our patriotism and our Husky pride, we would like to present the TCS Board with a large, U.S. flag to be flown for all athletic events at the new Hewitt-Trussville High School stadium.
On Thursday and Friday of this week, we will have a collection box for “silver” (nickels, dimes, or quarters). Students who wish to participate may simply drop their coin into the box. With almost 2000 students on our campus, a small amount will quickly add up, and we should be able to purchase a big, beautiful flag to be flown at Hewitt Field in the upcoming school year.
We want our students to feel involved in the excitement surrounding the opening of the stadium on Friday, and contributing toward a new flag is just a small way we can do that.

Paine Intermediate Math Blog
Parents:
The math classroom today looks
different from what many of us remember. One of the most important goals
is that students learn how to think critically about mathematical
concepts. Research reveals that in addition to math content, critical
thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity are skills we should
develop in our students. This translates to the math classroom through
real-world problems, exchange of ideas, numerical flexibility, development of
conceptual knowledge and procedural fluency. This can be confusing for
those of us that were not taught math in this manner. This parent
math blog will provide parents with important information regarding our math
curriculum, and hopefully answer some questions and lessen any confusion.
We are asking all parents to sign up to receive periodic updates as we post to our math blog. On the top left, use your email address to sign up for the blog.
This is one of many steps we are taking to keep our parents involved and informed on curriculum and instruction at Paine Intermediate School.

Emergency Drills Today
Paine Intermediate Parents:
Paine Intermediate School engaged in the following three emergency preparedness drills today: Severe Weather Drill, Fire Drill and Intruder Drill. We started at approximately 8:10 a.m. and were finished with all three drills by 9:05 a.m. Teachers have reviewed procedures and steps students should take for the various drills since the beginning of the school year, and again just this week.
The Intruder Drill was a collaborative effort between our School Resource Officers and the administration here at Paine Intermediate. All students and teachers immediately housed themselves for a temporary period of time in their designated safe place.
Our fire and severe weather drills are more routine drills that students participate in on a monthly basis. As expected, all students and staff immediately positioned themselves for a temporary period of time in their designated safe place.
We appreciate the students outstanding behavior and cooperation. All drills today were a success and we commend everyone involved!

Thank You!
Today is the end of one of the best chapters in my life; it is also the beginning of a new chapter as I make the transition from principal of Paine Intermediate School to Interim Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. I feel so blessed to have been a part of the life of our special school. I don’t know that I ever wanted anything as much as I wanted to be named principal of Paine Intermediate way back in 2002. I vividly remember the phone call informing me that I was going to be the principal of this beautiful new school in my own community.
I remember moving in the building that July of 2003. Boxes upon boxes. Truckload after truckload. Every single thing was new. New children, new teachers, new furniture, new procedures. Yep. Every. Single. Procedure. New and untried. The car line traffic in the early days was quite a challenge! The first morning we finally got all the students into the building about 9:00 A.M. Mrs. Schmitt and I were basket cases. Afternoon car line ended about 4:00! But after a year or so, we finally got it right.
We have shared so many experiences and memories over the past ten years. Some have been heartbreaking; some stressful; some hilarious. One thing we never had a shortage of was laughter. Will we ever forget the night we stayed ALL night because of snow? I wonder how many students we have had in our classrooms. Library books? AR points? Parties? Cupcakes? Doughnuts? I wonder how many chicken fingers we’ve eaten in the lunchroom. How many times have we sung the National Anthem? How many times have I said, “Let’s get on third square,”?
The most precious memories from my tenure at Paine Intermediate are the relationships and friendships that I have been privileged to be a part of. We are a genuine family. Every person in our building is and will always be special to me. All of our students and parents at PI right now and those who passed through our school and moved on have left an indelible impression on my life. I am a better person for having known so many wonderful children and families.
Reflecting is a good thing, but I am looking ahead to the future. Ours and theirs. Our children. Davis, Caroline, Molly, Jake, Jack, Josh, Thomas, Reese, Tyler, Blake, and the thousands of others we have and will touch. They are in great hands. I know that the Paine Intermediate staff, under the leadership of Dr. Jeter, will continue to work to teach them all. I am confident that Paine Intermediate and the new elementary schools will be the stellar schools we expect in our community, and that together we will help all of our students become the people they were created to be.
I will be back to visit, help, celebrate, meddle, and advise on a regular basis. I am confident that you continue to support the administration and teachers as they work tirelessly to help your children.
Thank you for the lovely memories.
Beth Bruno

Club Day
Three years ago, Paine Intermediate teachers and administrators were searching for ways to provide time during the school day for professional learning. After lots of conversations and preparations, the school rolled out Club Day, a win-win for students and staff. Club Day is a special day that occurs because of the innovation, hard work and and generosity of our counselors, specialist teachers, substitutes, and community volunteers.
If you ask any student what their favorite day is at Paine Intermediate, chances are they will tell you, “Club Day!” Ask a teacher what day is most valuable, and they, too, will most likely say, “Club Day!”
Thank you, Lauren Blake, for the huge amount of work you do to make this happen. Thank you to everyone for making Club Day such a success.
