That 70's Dance!

From The Alabama College and Career Ready Standards:
Students continue to develop foundational reading skills through Grades 3, 4, and 5; and reading standards for literature continue to be a major component of content instruction.  Reading skill in informational text, however, is of equal importance as students understand and explain events, procedures, ideas, and concepts in historical, scientific, technical, and other texts.  To build a foundation for college and career readiness, students must read widely and deeply from among a broad range of high-quality, increasingly challenging literary and informational texts.

At Paine Intermediate, teachers have been encouraging students to read a balance of fiction and nonfiction all year.  We have set a goal of reading and testing on 5,000 nonfiction books during February. Teachers will post their totals each week on a hall display that we hope will keep everyone inspired to read.
If students meet that goal of 5,000 nonfiction books, we will have a school wide dance for all students on February 27.  Prior to February 27, our physical education department will teach their dance unit, showing students various line dances.  (There will be no couples dancing.) The theme of the dances will be "That 70's Dance."  Students and staff members are invited to wear their 70's attire.  It should be a lot of fun that will inspire students to read an important genre that is not the top choice of literature for many.

Dance Times:
Grade 5     9:00-10:15
Grade 4    10:45 -12:00
Grade 3    1:00-2:15
